Last weekend, YouTube star and latest internet controversy subject Logan Paul posted a video of himself and friends venturing into Aokigahara, also known as “suicide forest.” The moniker spawned from the numerous suicides recorded on the site, prompting signs to lead visitors away from seeing any bodies. When Logan Paul and his group of friends ventured into the suicide forest for vlog footage, they expectedly stumbled across the body of a suicide victim hanging from a tree. Logan Paul then proceeded to film the victim’s body, showing everything but the man’s face, which was blurred out.

“So, a lot of things are going through my mind. This is a first for me.” Paul says in the video.  “His hands are purple. He did this this morning.” Turning the camera away from the body and to him, Paul addressed his “Logang” (his community of fans), saying how suicide isn’t a joke, and that, ”obviously a lotta people are going through a lotta [trauma] in their lives.”

The words seem to hold little sincerity, as Paul later went on to make jokes about the victim. After the video was posted, the backlash was almost instantaneous. People criticized Logan Paul for his insensitivity about the topic of suicide on numerous social platforms, including other popular YouTubers like Jacksepticeye and PewDiePie, who condemned him for having the conscious mindset to edit the video and upload it to the internet, aware of the graphic, and fairly upsetting content. The video had since been removed by Paul, who issued an apology on Twitter and then via a video on Youtube, but people are understandably skeptical over whether or not Paul was truly sorry for the incident.
