On May 1, 2017, Donald Trump said some controversial things about Andrew Jackson and the Civil War. Now it is no secret that the current president greatly admires the 7th president of the United States of America, to the point of hanging a portrait of Jackson in the White House. While Trump’s love for the 7th president rubbed many citizens the wrong way, claiming that Jackson was one of the worst presidents to emulate since he did order the forced relocation of Native American tribes living east of the Mississippi which cost many lives and was considered a genocide by many.

However, during an interview, Trump’s devotion to Jackson may have reached its peak when he stated,
“I mean, had Andrew Jackson been a little later, you wouldn’t have had the Civil War. He was a very tough person, but he had a big heart, and he was really angry that he saw what was happening with regard to the Civil War. He said, ‘There’s no reason for this.'”
Of course, despite Trump being a fan of Andrew Jackson, as history buffs were quick to point out, he seemed to forgotten that Andrew Jackson was dead for a full 16 years before the events of the Civil War. So it’s doubtful that he was able to have an opinion about anything let alone comment on them.

Trump gave his own opinion of the whole thing stating, “People don’t realize, you know, the Civil War, you think about it, why?” Before the interviewer could comment on that, Trump continued with a follow-up. “People don’t ask that question. But why was there the Civil War? Why could that one not have been worked out?”

Trump’s commentary on the Civil War has whipped up a storm of confusion, disbelief, and outrage among the US people. Now all there is left to do is wait and see how Trump’s PR is going to address this, if at all.
