Le’Veon Bell, age 22, of the Pittsburgh Steelers, was the second-leading rusher last season, gaining 1,361 rushing yards, 854 receiving yards, and scoring eight touchdowns. Bell played at Michigan State and was drafted in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

For the second time, Pittsburgh Steelers’ running back, Le’Veon Bell is faced with discipline from the NFL. Last season Bell sat out the first two games as punishment for his arrest in August 2014 on DUI and marijuana possession charges. Unfortunately, Bell’s return from his 2-game suspension was short lived. In week 8 in the contest against the Cincinnati Bengals, the running back’s season was ended. The NFL reported the injury saying “…linebacker Vontaze Burfict ended the running back’s season after a questionable tackle caused a knee injury that required surgery.”

Bell is now being faced with a maximum suspension of 4 games for missing multiple drug tests.

Under the NFL’s substance-abuse policy, players can be disciplined not only if they test positive, but also if they do not make themselves available for the test.

Bell is currently trying to appeal his suspension but has had little success in the past judging from last year’s suspension. So if Bell doesn’t win his appeal he will miss the first 4 games against the Washington Redskins, Cincinnati Bengals, Philadelphia Eagles, and Kansas City 49ers.

The Steelers should plan to rely on their backups, DeAngelo Williams and Fitzgerald Toussaint.
