Scholarships are grants or payments made to support a student’s education, awarded on the basis of academic or other achievement. They can either be one time sums of money or renewable scholarships which are used each semester or each year. You can apply for as many scholarships as you want, as long as they are open applications and you meet the eligibility criteria. Applications can usually be found online but your school guidance counselor can aid you in the process if there are complications.

There is also financial aid which is similar to a scholarship. Financial aid is supplied by the federal government to help students pay for education expenses at an eligible college or career school. Both financial aid and scholarships do not need to be repaid.

The last option available as a way to receive money for college is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You can get FAFSA by filling out the necessary paperwork which requires a social security number, most recent federal tax returns, W-2’s, bank statements, records of un-taxed income, and an FSA ID.

When it comes to scholarships, an average student can win $1000-$5000 with a lot of dedication and effort. Scholarships are very important to apply for even if money isn’t a major problem because they help you save money and can also decrease the amount of long-term debt. Scholarships are awarded for just about anything. Some of the many scholarships are for Academic and Merit, Community Service, First in Family, Legacy, Military, Prestigious, Average Students, For Men, For Moms, for being weird, and a writing scholarship. In Anne Arundel, you can get the John B. Sample Jr. Memorial Scholarship. Applying for a scholarships takes time, intelligence, and dedication. You will need to write an essay explaining why you should be considered for this scholarship and have a good conclusion.

Scholarships are important for a wide range of reasons. They help save money and can showcase your intelligence, hard work, and dedication towards your goal of going to college. Scholarships are a major avenue to reach success on your way to college and they should be utilized at any opportunity.
